Centerville, Utah road rage motorcycle crash victim dies |
|
Michael Rakes, a motorcycle driver who crashed in Centerville, Utah, has died.
Police say Rakes crashed after yelling at the woman who threw a cigarette out of her driver side window. The car and the motorcycle made contact with each other just before the crash, according to Centerville Police.
Police say Rakes wrecked while traveling northbound in a left turn lane. There was evidence of contact between the two vehicles.
Police do not believe the cigarette thrown at Mr. Rakes nor did it hit him or anyone else according to witnesses.Â
Rakes' wife witnessed the incident and told police that the Mazda swerved in the direction of her husband prior to the crash. Police say the driver of the Mazda, Kris Prinster, claims she was afraid for her safety and was trying to get away from the motorcycle and states she did not intentionally swerve.
Michael Rakes was airlifted to the University of Utah Hospital with a serious head injury. On Thursday, Rakes passed away as a result of his injuries.
Police say Rakes was not wearing a helmet at the time of this crash, but his 10-year old son who was riding with was wearing a helmet. The boy suffered an ankle injury and abrasions on his body and was released from Lakeview Hospital the next day.
Police say the crash was witnessed by Rake’s wife, who was riding on a motorcycle and was behind the crash as it happened.Â
This incident is still under investigation in cooperation with the Davis County Attorney’s Office.
